Colour Can Be Critical - Don't Believe Your Eyes!

Selecting the right colour for your card, brochure, presentation folder, direct mail, envelope etc is a critical part to many clients of SSS Printing & Publishing, and as the producer of the end product, it is often where we can be of most assistance to the client.

To those not in the printing industry, it is often not understood that programmes such as Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel and Powerpoint use a combination of RGB (Red, Green, Blue) to create the colours you see on your screen. In other words, the black that you see on your screen when you use Microsoft Word is not black - it is actually a combination of Red, Green and Blue in a combination of 31% Red ,26% Blue, 23% Green or similar. It looks black on the screen, but it's not true black and doesn't print true black.

Therefore, if you design your business card, brochure or other product in these programmes, you must be aware that the colours you are offered will not commercially print as you see them on the screen. In any case, your screen has contrast, lightness and darkness setting which will distort your colours subject to the ambient conditions of your home or office.

Advanced commercial printers such as SSS Printing & Publishing create true colour by using a four colour technique - CMYK which is Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. By using the 4 colour system, colours are produced as vibrant, true colours rather than the RGB representative colours as seen on your screen which will most likely print flat and without depth.

If you're serious about your printing and the image you produce, you want the colour to be true and correct so your branding and imagery is produced as you expected. It's your business - you have a right to expect this!

To assist you, our client, SSS Printing & Publishing have CMYK colour charts that you can access within our office which work just like a paint chart at your local paint shop or hardware. They show a vast range of colours in various gradients where you can simply select the exact colour you require, advise us the name of that colour and that is what will be printed.

No guess work, no risk and the colour you want is the colour you get. It can't be simpler and the problem is sorted.

If colour is important to you, give us a call or send us an email. We have the answers you need.
